When Life Abroad Brings More Than You Expected

Living abroad can be profoundly expansive—and unexpectedly destabilizing. Many people find that distance from familiar systems brings long-standing patterns into sharper focus. Feelings of disconnection from family, friends, or identity may arise. Old wounds may surface. Relationships can feel strained as partners adapt differently to the same transition.

Clients often arrive feeling overwhelmed by the absence of routine, the abundance of new choices, or the realization that familiar coping strategies no longer work. What once helped you survive may no longer support who you are becoming. Therapy offers a space to slow down, make meaning of this transition, and begin creating structure, stability, and connection in a new context.

A Systemic, Trauma-Informed Approach

My work is grounded in a systemic, trauma-informed framework shaped by over 15 years of experience supporting individuals through complex family and relational trauma. Therapy integrates family-of-origin dynamics, cultural background, attachment patterns, and the impact of trauma on the nervous system.

I draw from narrative and family systems therapy while remaining practical and solution-focused. Having lived and worked internationally, I bring a deep understanding of the psychological and relational complexities of expatriate life. This is thoughtful, contained work—designed to support meaningful, sustainable change rather than quick fixes.

Safety, Reverence, and Generational Healing

At the core of our work is the establishment of safety—within the therapeutic relationship and within your daily life. Together, we focus on creating supportive routines, strengthening social connection, and learning to respond to triggers with awareness rather than reactivity. Over time, this cultivates a sense of internal safety that is not dependent on place.

Each client’s story is held as sacred. Your experiences, adaptations, and expressions are approached with deep respect and care. When we attend to generational and ancestral patterns with intention, healing extends beyond the individual—shaping present relationships and future generations alike.

Who This Work Is For

Clients often come to me after achieving what once felt like the goal—only to discover a sense of dissatisfaction or disorientation once they arrive. Others seek therapy when long-standing family patterns become impossible to ignore from a distance, or when living abroad catalyzes the need for change.

This work is well suited for individuals who value depth, discretion, and thoughtful engagement, and who are ready to explore themselves with honesty and care.

I work with English-speaking expats living throughout Europe and Asia, offering a consistent and confidential therapeutic space across borders and cultures.
